Merritt Johnson

Merritt Johnson joined the Colonials as a volunteer coach in August of 2015. A former top 40 player in the USTA national men’s rankings, Johnson has more than 15 years of teaching experience. He competed on the USTA Professional Satellite circuit for two years. In 2005, Johnson achieved a #2 MAS ranking in the Men’s 35’s and a career high of #36 in the USTA national rankings. Johnson also served as the Boys’ and Girl’s head tennis coach at St. John’s College High School in Washington, DC. Coaching St. John’s girls’ team from 2006-14, winning 8 of 9 championships and finishing with a 112-1 record. In 2007, 2013 Johnson was named the Girls’ Coach of the Year by the Washington Post. Johnson is currently coaching at College Park Tennis Training Center, as a High Performance Senior Coach, working with National and ITF ranked students.
