Chuck Scheinost enters his 13th season as head coach of the GW golf program in 2025-26.
Scheinost has helped lead GW golf to new heights during his tenure, including a second place finish at the 2024 A-10 Championships. The Buff & Blue have finished in the top four of the conference championship seven times in his tenure, including three of the last four seasons.
Under Scheinost's guidance, 2024 graduate Jakub Hrinda became just the third golfer in program history to become a two-time All-Conference honoree. Hrinda also earned back-to-back PING All-Region accolades and landed a spot on the A-10 All-Academic team twice.
The 2022-23 season was a historic one for GW, breaking numerous team and individual records and earning an invitation to the inaugural Golfweek National Golf Invitational postseason event. The season featured the program record for individual 18-hole score (Jakub Hrinda, 62), 36-hole score (Jakub Hrinda, 132), 54-hole score (Jakub Hrinda, 199) and team low tournament scores through 36 (554, VCU Shootout) and 54 holes (829, VCU Shootout). At the time, the Buff & Blue recorded the three lowest 54-hole team scores in program history during the season and Jakub Hrinda and Manuel Barbachano earned individual tournament victories.
During his tenure, Scheinost helped 2019 graduate Logan Lowe complete a historic career with the Buff and Blue. In the spring of 2017, Lowe won for the first time as a collegian and went on to claim four more titles, including a pair of victories as a junior before being named A-10 Golfer of the Year. In his senior campaign, Lowe shot a 6-under 210 to win the A-10 Championship and earn his automatic berth to NCAA Regionals.
Scheinost landed the top-ranked duo in the A-10 in Vince Palazzolo and Jack Porcelli, who stamped their names in GW record books during their time in the Buff and Blue. Palazzolo and Porcelli helped elevate the program throughout their time in Foggy Bottom, helping lead the squad to three top-three finishes during their senior season, including the school's first tournament win in six years.
In his first season at GW, Scheinost helped mentor Jack Persons to an A-10 All-Conference selection, and the following season Persons repeated to become the first GW golfer to repeat that honor. Following in the footsteps of Persons, Logan Lowe then earned a spot on the A-10 All-Conference team in 2016 and 2017 under the tutelage of Scheinost. He was the only freshman to make the team in 2016. In 2017, Lowe won his first collegiate tournament (Bash at the Beach Invitational) and etched his name in the GW record books with both the lowest round in school history (65 at the Marshall Invitational) and low 54-hole score (207 at the Elon Phoenix Invitational). Additionally, Palazzolo matched the lowest round relative to par in school history with a 6-under 66 in the opening round of the 2017 A-10 Championship.
In addition to its performance on the course, GW has achieved at a high level in the classroom and community. GW was recognized as an All-Academic Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America for maintaining a team GPA above 3.0 in 2016-17, while Christian Cichan was named an All-America Scholar. GW also partners with the Salute Military Golf Association, which provides golf programs and experiences for wounded veterans.
Scheinost (SHY-knowst), who was named to the position on July 31, 2013, brought nearly a decade of collegiate golf coaching experience to Foggy Bottom, most recently as head men's golf coach at the University of Northern Colorado for six seasons from 2007-13.
At Northern Colorado, Scheinost transformed the Bears from a new NCAA Division I program into a consistent contender for the America Sky Golf Conference championship, including three consecutive top-3 finishes from 2008-11 and top-5 showings in each of the past five seasons.
Scheinost mentored eight America Sky All-Conference selections, including 2010 league Player of the Year Steve Bidne, as well as five America Sky All-Tournament performers, a pair of league Freshmen of Year, and 15 Academic All-Conference honorees during his six seasons at UNC.
Prior to his tenure at Northern Colorado, Scheinost served as assistant coach at Northern Illinois University from 2005-07, helping land the 2007 Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year while coaching two All-MAC performers, a MAC All-Tournament performer and a trio of MAC All-Academic and Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-America Scholars.
Scheinost began his collegiate coaching career as assistant men's and women's golf coach at Lenoir-Rhyne College (N.C.) during the 2004-05 season. The Bears' women's team peaked at 16th nationally in the NCAA Division II rankings during that season, and Coach Scheinost tutored five All-South Atlantic Conference golfers, including an SAC Player of the Year, and seven SAC All-Academic Team selections.
A four-year letterwinner for the men's golf team at Hastings (Neb.) College, Coach Scheinost earned his bachelor's degree in media production with a minor in athletic training/coaching from Hastings in 2004. He was an NAIA Scholar-Athlete selection in 2003 and earned four Golden Leaf Awards from the Nebraska Collegiate Media Association for television news and sports reporting. He went on to earn a master's degree in sports management at Northern Illinois in 2006.
