Baseball Tops Yale, Evens Series
3/7/2026 6:11:00 PM | Baseball
Behind strong pitching and timely hitting, the George Washington baseball team got back in the win column, securing a 6-5 victory over Yale on Saturday afternoon, evening the weekend series. Both teams will now duel for the series win on Sunday, at an adjusted game time of 11:00 a.m. to avoid potential inclement weather in the afternoon.
After both teams went scoreless in the first two innings, GW tallied the game's first two runs in the third. The first came on an RBI single through the right side from Charlie Walsh, scoring Robbie Lavey from third base. The second came one batter later when Conlon Walker reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Charlie Rogan.
GW's lead was short-lived as Yale knotted things back up in the top of the fourth off starter Andrew Cutler. Cutler finished his day at 4.0 innings pitched, striking out five batters and walking two in the no-decision.
GW jumped in front again in the fifth via a three-run home run from Walker, his second of the season. Scoring on the play were Walsh and Brodie Freker, giving the Revolutionaries a 5-2 advantage.
After the Bulldogs got two back in the sixth, Lavey gave GW a much-needed insurance run, ripping an RBI single to center field, scoring Greg Marmo from third. Yale threatened with one run in the ninth, but first-year Colin Lebel shut the door on the Bulldogs, securing his second save of the season.
Gavin Miller earned the win in relief for GW, tossing 3.0 innings and allowing two runs, moving him to 1-0 this year. He struck out three Yale batters. Alex Hwang was charged with the loss for the Bulldogs, dropping him to 0-1 on the season.
GW moves to 6-7 on the season ahead of Sunday's series finale at 11:00 a.m.
