Men's Basketball Drops Another Heartbreaker, 88-86, at Duquesne
2/7/2026 5:15:00 PM | Men's Basketball
PITTSBURGH - For the second time this week, and third time in as many games on the road, GW men's basketball came up short in a one-possession contest. On Saturday afternoon at Duquesne, GW's last-gasp 3-pointer from Trey Autry at the buzzer clanged off the rim to give the host Dukes an 88-86, sending GW to a fourth-straight loss.
The game was nip-and-tuck throughout with 11 ties and 18 lead changes, the last of which came on a Tarence Guinyard 3-pointer with 4:44 remaining to ignite an 8-0 run for the Dukes and put them in the driver's seat in the final moments.
Duquesne had an eight-point lead with a minute left, but missed four free throws and GW made a pair of 3s to set up the look from Autry on a perfectly-executed, full-court pass with less than two seconds remaining, but didn't get the final bounce it needed to steal the road win.
GW had a pair of career efforts in the defeat, including just the second triple-double in school history from Jean Aranguren who tallied 18 points, 10 rebounds (eight offensive) and 10 assists in 34 minutes. Aranguren's effort joins Carl Elliott in 2007 vs. Temple as the only in school history.
Inside, Luke Hunger scored a career-high 17 points and added 13 rebounds (six offensive) for his third double-double of the year. Autry made five 3-pointers to finish with 15 points while Garrett Johnson (14 points) and Tyrone Marshall Jr. (11) also reached double digits.
Guinyard scored 23 of his game-high 27 points in the second half to lead Duquesne, at one point scoring or assisting on 18 consecutive points down the stretch.
GW returns home for a pair of games next week beginning on Tuesday when Rhode Island visits the Smith Center at 7 p.m. As part of George's Birthday celebration, the first 1,500 fans will receive a free slice of Papa Johns pizza.
