WASHINGTON - Student-athletes from all sports descended upon the Smith Center Tuesday night for Dean's List night, and took in a wire-to-wire win for the Revolutionaries against the visiting Rhode Island Rams, 75-70.
With just six games remaining in league play before next month's championship tournament, the win keeps George Washington strongly in the hunt for the coveted bye, and still in play for the double-bye awarded to the top four teams.
Using Tyrone Marshall in a point forward role, the grad student registered 15 points, six rebounds and five assists in 28:55 off the bench, as playing without the services of two starters once again, GW needed contributions from the seven available scholarship players.
Luke Hunger was up to the task as well, pouring in yet another career-high 21 points after netting what was then a career-high 17 last time out at Duquesne. The Big 10 transfer also logged 36:02 in his first season in Foggy Bottom after transferring from Northwestern in the offseason with two seasons of eligibility.
Garrett Johnson gave GW three double-digit scorers with his 17 points, including shooting 3-of-5 from long range.
A Friday night fight shows next on GW's docket with George Mason set to cross the Potomac for a 7 p.m. bout on CBS Sports Network. George Washington legend Shawnta Rogers will have his number #54 honored in a special halftime ceremony.
