Men’s Basketball Wins Friday the 13th Thriller vs. Mason, 72-53

WASHINGTON - With GW royalty in the house Friday night as the Smith Center faithful honored Shawnta Rogers' #54, the current team treated a packed house and national TV audience to a performance for the ages that left the masses shouting "Luuuuuke" after the game.
In his third-straight, career-best outing, Luke Hunger had a monster night on Friday the 13th, scaring the visiting Patriots out of the gym with 31 points and 10 rebounds, playing almost flawless basketball in GW's 72-53 win. The Canadian big man shot 10-of-14 from the floor, including a perfect 3-of-3 from deep, and missed just one free throw in nine attempts while committing nary a turnover nor a foul.
The sensational performance was backed by another transfer who has turned it on when his team needed him most, as Jean Aranguren double-doubled with 16 points, game-high tying 10 rebounds (with Hunger), and game-high six assists, also against zero turnovers.
George Washington led by as many as 22 and was ahead for more than 37 minutes, exacting some payback after a narrow defeat at George Mason last month. As impressive as Hunger and Aranguren were on the offensive end, it was a gritty effort on defense that kept the Patriots at bay, as GM shot .392 from the field in the face of the physical GW D.
Winners of two-in-a-row and back to within a game of .500 in the uber-competitive A-10, GW takes its show on the road next for a Tuesday night clash at VCU. The showdown against the Rams comes at 8 p.m. back on CBS Sports Network.
