VCU Pulls Past Men's Basketball, 89-75

RICHMOND, Va. - GW men's basketball built a nine-point second-half lead on the road at the Siegel Center on Tuesday night, but VCU squashed any hopes of a Buff & Blue victory with a late onslaught to win going away, 89-75.
GW's offense was clicking on all cylinders through the first 28 minutes, taking a 65-56 lead on a Tre Dinkins layup with 12:27 remaining while shooting a robust 53% to that point.
From there, though, the Revolutionaries couldn't buy a bucket, making just one of their next 13 shots across 10 minutes of action while VCU, buoyed by its boisterous home crowd, went on an elongated 25-4 avalanche to seize control of the game and never look back.
A-10 Player of the Week Luke Hunger once again was tremendous for George Washington with 24 points and 10 rebounds for his second-straight double-double and third in the last four contests. Dinkins had 16 on the back of four 3-pointers, while Tyrone Marshall Jr. (14 points) and Garrett Johnson (10) also reached double digits.
VCU, which shot 52% and attempted 35 free throws to GW's 17, had six players in double figures led by Tyrell Ward's 15.
Following five games in 14 days with just seven available scholarship players, GW will now take advantage of its final bye of the regular season to get healthy before returning to action next Tuesday at La Salle. Tip is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with coverage on ESPN+.
