Men's Basketball Sets Records in 104-77 Demolition of La Salle

PHILADELPHIA - GW men's basketball welcomed back two key cogs in Rafael Castro and Bubu Benjamin on Tuesday night and looked like a well-oiled machine in a 104-77 thrashing of La Salle.
The 104 points mark the most scored ever by GW in a regulation Atlantic 10 game, surpassing the 103 scored against Richmond in 2018. GW shot 67.2% from the floor, also the highest since that game against the Spiders.
The outcome was never truly in doubt as GW made its first eight shots from the field and led by 10, 45-35, at the intermission. Back-to-back threes from Christian Jones and Jean Aranguren early in the second half forced an Explorers timeout, but GW powered right through, extending the lead to as many as 30 while scoring 59 points after halftime.
Five different Revolutionaries reached double digits, led by Luke Hunger's fourth-straight 20-point game on an 8-of-9 shooting day. Castro, playing for the first time since Jan. 27, had 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in 24 minutes.
Trey Autry finished a rebound shy of a double-double with 19 points and nine boards, knocking down four triples. Aranguren added 16 points and four assists while Bubu Benjamin, back after missing four games, tallied 10 points.
GW assisted on 24 of its 39 field goals and created a lay-up line to the rim with a 58-24 edge in paint points, making 29-of-36 (80.6%) 2-point field goals.
Next up for GW is a #FridA10 showcase at the Smith Center, welcoming the Dayton Flyers for a Blue Out on Friday night at 7 p.m. on ESPN2. Tickets are still available at GWsports.com/tickets.
