WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball returns to the Smith Center for the start of a two-game homestand, welcoming Loyola Chicago for a 3 p.m. tip on Saturday. The game will be nationally broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
The first 500 fans will receive a free Raise High Rally Towel and those 21 and over can enjoy two for $12 Dribblin' George lagers at concession stands during the game. Saturday is also the final chance to purchase $5 or $10 George's Army student section tickets via this link.
APTLY-NAMED FOR THE SKILL SET
Tre Dinkins has lived up to his billing with a pair of 5+ 3-pointer games in the first three games of league play, knocking down six at Richmond (12/31) and five on Tuesday at Dayton. Dinkins has made at least four treys six times this season, including in three of the last four games. Over the last four contests, he is averaging 16.5 ppg and shooting 49% (17/35) from deep.
The graduate student is second in the A-10 (25th NCAA) in 3-point percentage (43.8) while also making the second-most 3s (46). He's also second in the circuit with a career-best 2.88 threes per game. Dinkins has led his teams in three-pointers each of the last two seasons, making 85 at Canisius in 2023-24 and 77 at Duquesne last year.
BENCH BOSSES
GW's bench has scored 30 or more points in 10 games this season, including a trio of 50+ performances against American (54), McNeese (53) and Tuesday vs. Dayton (51). The Revolutionaries are 21st nationally (5th A-10) with 34.9 bench points per game and 26 of the 67 double-digit performances (39%) have come from reserves.
Tuesday featured 70% of the points coming from reserves with Dinkins (24), Garrett Johnson (14) and Tyrone Marshall Jr. (11) all posting double-digit efforts.
A LOOK AT THE RAMBLERS
Loyola Chicago, projected fifth in the A-10 with a pair of first-place votes, enters play at 5-11 on the season and 1-2 in league play. The Ramblers lost seven-straight during non-conference play, but own a top-100 win over Santa Clara, and a road win at Rhode Island to open up league play.
Justin Moore is the team's leading scorer at 13.3 ppg and Xavier Amos scores 11.4 ppg, but both did not play in Wednesday's loss to Davidson. Loyola possesses one of the best rim protectors in the country in Miles Rubin, who ranks 12th nationally with 38 blocks to go along with 10.6 ppg.
The Ramblers are 13th in the league in both scoring offense (68.4 ppg) and scoring defense (75.3), although the defense has shown improvement to 68.7 ppg allowed in conference play.
