Men’s Basketball Hits 100 vs. Loyola Chicago, Wins 101-66
1/10/2026 5:52:00 PM | Men's Basketball
WASHINGTON - Back home Saturday looking to get back in the win column and stay amongst the top-four teams in a loaded upper tier of the Atlantic 10, GW men's basketball hosted Loyola Chicago, a team that was picked by the conference coaches to finish fifth in the league.
Eight minutes into play, it became apparent that George Washington would find what it was looking for. The visiting Ramblers didn't score until the clock clicked under 12:00 in the first half, as the Revolutionaries sprinted out to a 22-0 edge before Loyola discovered the basket.
To the credit of the undermanned Ramblers, they outscored GW 39-38 for the remainder of the first half, but the damage was done. By halftime, Christian Jones had already set a new career-high in assists with six - before finishing with nine - and Rafael Castro was on his way to another double-double, with 10 points and eight rebounds in the opening stanza. Garrett Johnson's 13 first-half points were the punctuation of a 60-point first half that featured 12 assists on 19 field goals and a 9-of-19 (.474) showing from deep, with nary a wayward free throw (13-of-13).
The deluge slowed slightly in the second half, but not before Castro registered his double-double with matching 14s in points and rebounds, and walk-on Amir Arrington celebrated his 21st birthday with a 3-pointer to lift GW beyond the century mark in the closing minute.
Johnson finished with a team-high 18 points, taking five other players with him into double figures. Trey Autry finished with 17 (four 3s), Jean Aranguren had a dozen, and Tre Dinkins and Jones both threw in 11.
George Washington stays home this week and will entertain Davidson next at the Smith Center. Tip time in Wednesday night's meeting is 7 p.m., live on ESPN+ and Monumental Sports Network.
