WASHINGTON - The Davidson Wildcats visited Foggy Bottom Wednesday night and escaped with an 84-79 win after outshooting George Washington in an A-10 nail-biter.
GW had its chances as Davidson struggled to put the game away, allowing the Revolutionaries to whittle a 17-point second half deficit to three in the closing minute. But the Wildcats second-half prowess from the floor, when they hit at a .630 mark from the floor (17-of-27) and 70% clip from three (7-of-10) allowed Davidson to secure the road win.
Despite hoisting 18 more shots than the guests, GW wasn't able to find the bucket with the same efficiency. The slower paced Wildcats took their possessions deep into the shot clock and found success within their ball control offense, assisting on 20 of 28 made field goals.
GW answered the halftime bell and outscored Davidson 51-48 after trailing 36-28 at halftime, and only turned the ball over five times, staying close with a 17-8 edge in points off turnovers.
Rafael Castro led GW with 23 points and 16 rebounds, while Garrett Johnson netted 18 and Christian Jones tossed in 16.
Next for GW comes an MLK Day Monday clash at George Mason, live nationally on CBS Sports Network at 5 p.m.
