WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball looks to keep the good times rolling at home as it aims for its best A-10 start in 11 years on Wednesday when it welcomes Davidson to Smith Center. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monumental Sports 2.
The first 200 GW students in attendance will receive a GW keychain. As always, admission is free for GW students by showing your GWorld at Gate 5 on F Street.
DEFENDING SMITH
GW has been a juggernaut on its home floor this season, posting an 8-1 record and outscoring its foes by an average of 26.1 ppg. All eight of GW's home victories have been by double digits with Saturday's 35-point victory marking the third win by 30+ points. The first 200 GW students in attendance will receive a GW keychain. DEFENDING SMITH
GW is averaging 87.9 ppg offensively, but the story has been on the defensive side of the ball where the Revolutionaries are limiting foes to 61.8 ppg, 39.2% FG and 28.2% 3-point FG at home, compared to season-long averages of 72.5 ppg, 43.1% FG and 30.5% 3s. A win on Wednesday would mark the second-straight 9-1 start at home.
CRASHING THE BOARDS
GW racked up 42 more rebounds on Saturday vs. Loyola Chicago, improving to fourth in the A-10 with 38.9 rebounds per game. The Buff & Blue are third in the league (32nd nationally) with a +7.9 rebounding margin and are 10-3 this season when winning the rebounding battle.
GW has got 36.5% of its misses back this year (3rd A-10, 37th NCAA) and perhaps more importantly, has limited opponents to getting just 27.6% of their misses back (3rd A-10, 61st NCAA). GW is averaging 13.5 second-chance points per game and has 10+ second-chance points in all four A-10 games and 13 of 17 overall.
A LOOK AT THE WILDCATS
Davidson enters play Wednesday at 10-6 (2-2 A-10) following a 70-45 home loss to Rhode Island on Saturday. The Wildcats are 2-0 on the road in league play with wins at Saint Joseph's and Loyola Chicago, but have coupled that with home losses to Duquesne (2OT) and Rhode Island.
Davidson has been exceptionally balanced with 11 players averaging between 11.0 and 25.0 mpg and nine different players starting at least one game. Roberts Blums has come off the bench in all 16 games and is the team's leading scorer with 10.4 ppg. Parker Friedrichsen, who scored 27 in a win over Loyola last week, is the lone other double-digit scorer at 10.0 ppg.
Pace will be critical on Wednesday as Davidson is 13th in the A-10, and 333rd nationally, averaging just 64.7 possessions per game. For comparison, GW's lowest-possession game this year was 65 on Jan. 3 vs. La Salle.
