WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball takes on its second rank foe of the season, this time in league-leading #21/22 Saint Louis. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Tuesday with coverage on ESPN+.
JOHNSON SHINING IN RETURN TO COURT
Garrett Johnson scored 12 points (4-5 3s) on Saturday vs. Richmond to extend his season-best, double-digit scoring streak to five in a row. Over the last five, Johnson is averaging 16.0 ppg on 48.3% FG (28/58) and 45.2% 3s (14/31), making at least two 3s every game.
Another double-digit showing on Tuesday would match the longest stretch of his career, which he did twice during his debut season in 2023-24.
APTLY-NAMED FOR THE SKILL SET
Tre Dinkins has lived up to his billing with multiple 3s in six of seven league games and four or more on three occasions, including last time out vs. Richmond.
Dinkins has made at least four triples seven times this season overall and is second in the A-10 (31st NCAA) in 3-point percentage (42.0) while also making the second-most 3s (55). He's also third in the circuit with a career-best 2.75 3s per game.
The graduate student made his 250th career 3-pointer on Saturday vs. Richmond and is now just one of 16 players nationally to make 55 or more 3s in each of the last three seasons.
A LOOK AT THE BILLIKENS
Saint Louis has been the cream of the A-10 crop this year, sitting at 19-1 overall, 7-0 in conference play and riding a 13-game winning streak. The Billikens are ranked for the first time since 2020-21.
SLU has been tremendous on both sides of the ball, currently ranked as the #1 team in the country in effective field goal percentage offense (60.5%) and defense (41.9%). The raw numbers back that up with the Billikens ranking in the top-5 nationally in two-point percentage offense and defense, and three-point percentage offense and defense.
Saint Louis has six players averaging double figures led by Robbie Avila's 12.7 ppg. Kellen Thames was the A-10 Player of the Week last week and averages 10.1 ppg. SLU has topped 90 points 11 times and leads the nation in scoring margin at +24.6 ppg. The Billikens have won their three A-10 home games by an average of 23.3 ppg.
