
Volleyball Earns Two Wins in Final Non-Conference Showing

Boca Raton, Fla. – In the final weekend of non-conference action, GW volleyball earned two wins at the Owls Paradise Classic hosted by Florida Atlantic. The Revolutionaries fell to the host Owls in the weekend opener before earning two wins over Bethune-Cookman and Stetson, to notch a 7-5 mark in non-conference play.

The GW Revs battled the host Owls in the weekend opener, ultimately falling to the hosts in five sets.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· GW jumped ahead early in the first, swinging for 17 kills to out-hit the hosts by five and claim the opening set, 25-21. The stanza was also GW's most efficient, with the team swinging .302 on the attack.
· The Owls moved to steal the momentum back in both the second and the third, claiming the second, 25-22, and the third, 25-21.
· The Buff & Blue battled back in the fourth, forcing a fifth and final set with a 25-21 mark in the fourth frame.
· In the fifth and final frame, the hosts claimed the match after seeing seven ties and two lead changes to win, 15-10.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
· Graduate student Sydney Hasenfatz led GW on offense, swinging for 17 kills across the five sets.
· Cayla Cogan (14 kills ) and Cianna Tejada (12 kills ) also served as offensive assets for GW on the attack. Tejada hit .545 across 22 attempts.
· Alexis Rodriguez earned a double-double, her third of the season, chipping in 10 kills on offense and 10 digs on defense.
· The team amassed 60 digs on defense, led by Lydia Zeng with 17.
· Setter Abby Markworth had 53 assists, marking a new career-high for the starting sophomore setter.
GW vs. Bethune-Cookman
Moving on a quick turnaround, GW immediately bounced back in its second match of the day, sweeping Bethune-Cookman in a swift three sets, 25-23, 25-19, 25-15.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· GW put down 43 kills across the three sets, out-hitting the Wildcats by 23.
· The Revolutionaries held the lead for the entirety of the first and third frames, while battling with Bethune-Cookman in the second for eight ties and five lead changes.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
· Alexis Rodriguez had a dynamic match, leading GW's offense with 19 kills and a .412 attacking percentage on 34 attempts. The sophomore also added one service ace and a block.
· Abby Markworth dished out 36 assists Friday's second matchup while also adding in two of GW's seven service aces.
· At the net, Sydney Stewart led the Buff & Blue's defensive cohort, tallying four blocks.
· The team combined for 39 digs, lead by libero Lydia Zeng who amassed 15.

In its non-conference finale, the GW Revs topped the Stetson Hatters in four sets on Saturday afternoon to close out with two wins in Boca Raton and finish its non-conference slate, 7-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· GW kicked off the match the opening frame with 15 kills, allowing the Hatters to take the lead only twice. The Buff & Blue claimed the first, 25-19.
· George Washington kept its momentum in the second, putting down 16 more kills across 28 attempts (.536) to earn a 2-0 lead, 25-17.
· Stetson forced a shift in the third set, eventually besting GW, 25-22, to force a fourth set.
· In the fourth and final frame, GW once again found its footing, claiming the set, 25-19, and earning its final non-conference win, 3-1.

· GW utilized seven hitters on Saturday, led by middle blocker Cianna Tejada who swung .520 across 15 kills. Tejada also led GW at the net, putting down four blocks.
