
Volleyball Downs Rhode Island in Three

WASHINGTON - GW volleyball swiftly defeated Rhode Island in straight sets Friday evening, earning its first conference win of 2025 in front of a lively home crowd.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· The Rams jumped ahead early in the opening frame, cruising to as much as an eight point lead before GW found its stride. After that, it was all Buff & Blue as the Revolutionaries stifled Rhode Island to win the stanza, 25-18. · The middle set was the tightest of the match, with the foes reaching a tie 13 times and the lead shifting back and forth for an additional three. GW once again found its footing late in the set to narrowly win, 25-23.
· The Revolutionaries cruised ahead in the third, continuing the momentum and earning a 25-13 victory to earn the A-10 sweep.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
· As a team, the GW Revs hit .358 on the evening and out-hit Rhode Island, 50-30.
· Starting setter Abby Markworth earned 37 assists.
· Sydney Stewart and Hasenfratz chipped in four blocks at the net.
· Defensively, the Revolutionaries tallied 47 digs.
Tomorrow, GW closes the series with Rhode Island in a 1 p.m. matinee. Fans are encouraged to head to the Smith Center early to honor the team's honorary captain, Juniper, who is currently undergoing treatment for osteosarcoma. Tomorrow's match will not be streamed, and admission is free for attendees.
