Volleyball Drops to American in Four

The weekend finale of the D.C. Challenge was a tight battle from the opening serve, but ultimately, the American Eagles defeated George Washington in a four-set match on Sunday afternoon in Bender arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· The opening frame was narrow for its duration, and both teams were tested in extra points. AU eventually won 29-27, outhitting the Buff and Blue, 18-14.
· The Revolutionaries battled back in the second, swinging for 14 kills to even the match with a 25-22 set score victory.
· The third was dominated by the Eagles, 25-14.
· In the fourth and final frame, GW jumped out to a solid lead early, but American quickly battled back. Playing neck and neck into the final points, American ultimately had the upper hand of the match, defeating the visitors, 25-22 in the final set to claim victory.
BY THE NUMBERS
· Pin hitters Alexis Rodriguez, Taylor Treahy and Cayla Cogan once again led GW's offense, combining for 36 of the team's 52 kills.
· Rodriguez also led the team on defense, leading with 13 digs and chipping in three service aces.
· At the net, middle blockers Sydney Hasenfratz and Sydney Stewart provided a consistent presence for the Revolutionaries, combining for 13 kills and four blocks.
· Dilara Elmacıoğlu once again paced the GW attack with 41 assists.
GW returns home to the Smith Center for the GW/Georgetown tournament beginning on Friday for an 11 a.m. matinee with North Carolina Central. Fans are encouraged to review the bag policy in the Smith Center, and attendance is free for all fans.
