DAVIDSON, N.C. - In the opener of a three-game weekend set at Davidson, George Washington fell to the host Wildcats, 11-6.
The GW Revs struck first after Ellis Schwartz led off with a single, stole second and later came around to score on a groundout by fellow outfielder Sam Gates, but the lead was short-lived as Davidson clawed back with one of their own in the first, then roared ahead with three in the second, three in the fourth, and single runs in the fifth and seventh wrapped around a pair in the sixth.
Six different players hit home runs in the ballgame with two off the bats of the visitors, Gates three-run shot in the fifth to cut a 7-2 deficit to 7-5, and Tim Nicoholson's blast in the ninth to try to start a rally that was ultimately cut down with two aboard in the ninth.
Gates and Nicholson's long balls were the exception on the night for the Revolutionaries, who otherwise had six singles against 16 strikeouts in the ballgame. Schwartz was aboard three times for the Buff & Blue and came around to score each time.
Michael Foltz was charged with the loss for GW and was followed up out of the bullpen by Max Haug and Declan Wywoda.
The teams are back it on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
