WASHINGTON – With just three weeks left in the 2025 regular season, the George Washington baseball team looks ahead to its final home mid-week matchup of the season before traveling to Davidson for a pivotal series with the Wildcats this weekend. The Buff & Blue are set to host Towson on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. and will open their series at Davidson on Friday at 5:00 p.m. All three games this weekend will be carried on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Towson enters the week 14-30 overall after avoiding a sweep at Campbell with a 3-2 win on Sunday. The Tigers, who beat GW 16-2 earlier this season on March 12, have lost eight of their last nine contests and 11 of the last 13. Towson is led by skipper Matt Tyner, who's been with the program since the 2018 season. He's accumulated a 110-262 record in that time, leading the team to 21 wins in 2021, the best over his tenure thus far.
Offensively, Towson is led by Brian Heckelman, who's batting .352 on the season. He's recorded 45 hits, including 14 for extra bases. Heckelman has driven in a team-best 31 RBI, and he also leads the program in slugging percentage (.555) and on-base percentage (.419). Max D'Alessandro is slashing .302 from the plate this season with 28 runs scored, while Jordan Peyton is the team's hits leader with 47 on the year. Towson's 2025 season stats can be found here.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Despite holding a below .500 record this season at 19-23, Davidson has trended towards the top of the A-10 all season, holding a 13-8 conference record and currently sitting in a tie for fourth, just one game behind the three teams in the conference who share first place currently at 14-7. GW is just behind the Wildcats, sitting in a three-way tie for sixth with Dayton and Fordham, each holding an 11-10 mark in conference action.
Prior to hosting GW this weekend, Davidson will welcome North Carolina A&T on Tuesday, marking the Wildcats' final mid-week matchup of the season. Davidson is led by head coach Rucker Taylor, who has been at the helm of the program since the 2019 season. He's nearing the 200-win total, currently holding a 185-137 record, including a 43-13 record in 2022, the single-season program record for wins in a season. He also earned the Atlantic 10's Coach of the Year Award and the school's first outright regular season conference championship in '22 as well.
At the plate, Cider Canon leads the club with a .368 batting average. He's notched 53 hits and leads the team with 14 home runs. His .771 slugging percentage is third in the A-10 this season, and he's also third in the conference with three triples on the year. Eli Putnam leads the team with 66 hits this season, recording 13 home runs. Michael O'Shaughnessy is the team leader in on-base percentage at .469, while also belting 13 homers and scoring 44 runs.
On the hill, Wilson Perkins and Isaac Fix have both earned starts in each weekend series for Davidson this season. Perkins is 6-4 with a 5.71 ERA, recording 65 strikeouts in 64.2 total innings of work. Fix is 4-4 this season, holding a 7.66 ERA in 47.0 innings. He's recorded 33 punchouts as well.
