WASHINGTON – Following a stellar week at the plate, Sam Gates has been named the Atlantic 10 Under Armour Player of the Week. Gates becomes the first Revolutionary to earn a conference weekly award this season.
In GW's three games last weekend, Gates finished with a stellar .636 batting average, going 7-for-11 at the plate with a walk and two hit-by-pitches. His on-base percentage finished at .714, and he notched one home run and two doubles for a slugging percentage of 1.091. That gave him an astounding 1.805 OPS against a pitching staff that has allowed the fewest total hits and recorded the most strikeouts amongst A-10 teams in 2025.
Both of Gates' doubles came in Friday's series opener against Saint Joseph's, moving him into a tie for ninth place on the program's career rankings. He joins Charlie Kruer '08 with 48 career two-baggers with four games left in the regular season.
Gates and the Revolutionaries battle Georgetown today at 3:00 p.m. before traveling to Saint Louis for the final series of 2025. GW looks to make a push for postseason play, currently sitting in a four-way tie for the final two spots in the Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship, to be held next week in Tysons, VA.
