Men’s Basketball Tops La Salle on Senior Day, 71-60

WASHINGTON - After honoring legendary Head Coach Fran Dunphy prior to Saturday evening's men's basketball game at George Washington, the GW Revs then secured a win against Dunphy's Explorers in his last-ever game on the sidelines at GW.
The Buff & Blue got it done in the last home game of the season by punching it straight up the gut, out-slugging La Salle in the paint with a 30-12 edge inside. Led once again by All-Conference-worthy big man Rafael Castro, whose 13th double-double of the season marked the most by a GW player since the late Yinka Dare in 1994, the Revolutionaries secured a 71-60 win to get to 19 wins on the year and within a game of .500 in A-10 play at 8-9.
Castro's game highs of 22 points and 16 rebounds came in a dominant effort that also included a team-high tying three assists, along with a block and steal on defense, but he wasn't the only one on the home side who submitted yet another example of All-Conference worthiness. Redshirt freshman Christian Jones out-dueled his Jones counterpart on La Salle — the Explorers' first-year point man Deuce Jones — by putting in 13 points on an efficient 3-of-5 shooting, canning all six freebies in the process.
GW led by as many as 17 in the first half before withstanding several late La Salle runs to secure the victory.
GW now heads to the Bronx to face Fordham for the regular season finale on Wednesday night, as the team drew a bye on the A-10's final day next Saturday. A top-six seed is out of reach in next month's A-10 Championship, but a win against the Rams would put pressure on a tight grouping including Duquesne, St. Bonaventure and UMass in the race for the 7-seed.
