Softball Opens Season at Blue Hose Invitational

The Revolutionaries travel to Clinton, S.C. to begin their 2025 campaign
WASHINGTON - Led by Head Coach Chrissy Schoonmaker in her fourth season, the George Washington University softball team will begin its 2025 season this weekend with five games at the Blue Hose Invitational, hosted by Presbyterian. GW opens the weekend vs. Morehead State at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, and live stats for each contest along with the full weekend schedule can be found below.Â

RETURNING REVOLUTIONARIES
GW brings back experience from 2024, returning 11 student-athletes for the new season. Among the returners are 2024 A-10 All-Conference Second Team catcher Allison Heffley, and former A-10 All-Rookies Ashley Corpuz (2023), Paige Hayward (2024), Cece Smith (2024) and Sophia Torreso (2024). GW's returning group is bolstered by sophomore Cadence Gilliland, a pair of seniors in Gabby Polsky and Taylor Puig, and a junior class that includes Lily Hanafin, Daniella Lew and Emma Fales. NEW TO THE BUFF & BLUE
GW comes into 2025 with nine new student-athletes, comprised of four first-years and five transfers. The Buff & Blue have added four graduate transfers to the roster from the Ivy League: Lilly Travieso (Cornell), Anna Reed (Harvard), Carolyn Skotz (Yale) and Madi Mays (Harvard), along with Chloe Greene, who is a junior transfer from Radford. GW's first-years each hail from the West Coast and include: Emi Todoroki (Anaheim, CA), Kaylee Layfield (Yorba Linda, CA), Katie Hendrickson (Phoenix, AZ) and Madie Hernandez (West Covina, CA).Â

MOREHEAD STATE
Led by Megan Griffith in her third season, Morehead State is coming off a 12-28 season in which it finished 9th in the Ohio Valley Conference at 6-21. Friday and Saturday will be the first-ever meetings between GW and Morehead State. Morehead State's 2024 season stats can be found here.
NORTHERN KENTUCKY
Northern Kentucky arrives at the Blue Hose Invite after a 27-22 2024 regular season, finishing 14-10 in the Horizon League before finishing as the runner-up in the Horizon League Championship. Led by Head Coach Morgan Gerak in her first season, Northern Kentucky will lace up against GW for the first time ever this weekend. NKU's full 2024 season stats can be found here.Â
PRESBYTERIAN
The host Presbyterian Blue Hose enter the new season after a 15-36 2024 campaign, which included a 5-13 mark in the Big South. The Blue Hose are led by David Williams in his seventh season. GW won the only prior meeting between the teams in a 5-0, neutral-site shutout in 2012. Presbyterian's full 2024 season stats can be found here.Â
