Softball Stumbles on Day Two of UNCG Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The George Washington University softball team suffered a pair of losses on Saturday, falling to both Tennessee Tech and Towson on day two of the UNCG Invitational. The Revolutionaries look ahead to tomorrow's tournament finale against UNCG.Â
GW 1, Tennessee Tech 4
GW was looking to extend its win streak to six on Saturday when they matched up against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles, but TTU had other plans in mind as they quieted GW's high-powered offense in a 4-1 victory.
The Revolutionaries were averaging 6.5 runs and nine hits per game before their matchup with TTU, but Golden Eagles ruled the day, holding GW to four hits and one run. GW scored first as Paige Hayward collected her sixth RBI of the season in the top of the fourth inning, but the Golden Eagles were quick to tie and take the lead in the bottom of the frame.
TTU runs in the fifth and sixth created a buffer, and GW wasn't able to manage enough action on the bases to catch up.
Cece Smith took the loss for GW; her first of the season.
GW 16, TOWSON 20
Looking to bounce back from game one, GW battled Towson in a high-powered offensive thriller that resulted in a four-run victory for the Tigers.
Towson leapt out to a quick 7-0 lead, but the Revolutionaries battled back in both the third and fourth to take a narrow 9-8 lead. Madi Mays was the catalyst with a grand slam in the fourth, her first homer as a Revolutionary.
Despite the Revolutionaries claiming the lead in the bottom of the fourth, Towson would reclaim the lead and continue to pour it on for the remainder of the game. Pushing ahead in the top of the seventh, Towson ended things with 20 runs, and the GW Revs were unable to even things out in the bottom of the inning, resulting in the 20-16 victory in favor of the Tigers.
Alyssa Bostley of Towson earned the win, while GW's Emma Fales took the loss in her season debut.

The Buff & Blue have one game left in their stay at the UNCG Invitational, which comes tomorrow against the host Spartans. First pitch between GW and UNCG is set for 3:00 p.m.Â
