STAND 'EM UP, SIT 'EM DOWN
The Revolutionaries' pitching to start 2025 has led GW to its strong start. GW's staff ranks 24th in the country in ERA, allowing just 1.63 earned runs per game. GW has thrown four pitchers so far this season - Anna Reed, Cece Smith, Chloe Greene and Sophia Torreso - and they have made it tough on the opposition all season long, ranking first in the conference and 26th in the NCAA in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.27).
OWNING THE BASES
GW ranks second in the conference and 37th nationwide in stolen bases per game, averaging two swiped bases in each contest. The Revolutionaries have 12 total this season while holding their opponents to four.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Iona comes into the weekend at 0-4, having allowed seven or more runs in each of its games. The Gaels are coming off an 18-29 2024 season, which included a 14-10 record in conference and a three-game stay at the MAAC Championship. The Gaels' full-season stats can be found here. Iona is coached this season by head coach Carla Campagna in her first season leading the Gaels. GW last met Iona in 2015, which resulted in a 13-2 (5 innings) victory.
Tennessee Tech is 4-5 overall this season. In 2024, the Golden Eagles were just south of .500 at 23-24 and were eliminated from the Ohio Valley Conference tournament after three games. TTU's full-season stats can be found here. The team is led by Danielle Penner in her third season. This is the first all-time meeting between GW and Tennessee Tech.
Towson began the season with a 2-6 record, having already played and fallen to the reigning A-10 Champions, Dayton. Towson was 22-32 last season, falling short of a postseason appearance. The Tigers' full-season stats can be found here. Towson is coached by Lisa Costello, who has over 800 career victories in 29 seasons leading the Tigers. GW beat Towson 9-0 at home in 2024 and owns an 11-5 all-time record over the Tigers.
UNCG is 8-2 this year and playing in their second tournament in Greensboro. The Spartans were 13-8 in conference and 33-26 overall last season but were knocked out of the SoCon Tournament after four games. UNCG's full-season stats can be found here. The Spartans are coached by Janelle Breneman in her 13th season. The Buff & Blue lost to UNCG twice in 2022 at the Spiro Classic, and trail the all-time series 9-4.Â
