Men's Basketball Set for Saturday Date with Davidson

WASHINGTON - Separated by just a half-game in the A-10 standings with three weeks remaining, GW men's basketball and Davidson will meet on Saturday afternoon for a 4 p.m. tip in North Carolina. Streaming coverage will be available on ESPN+.
SOPHOMORE SURGE
Trey Autry's career-high 23 points (5-11) on Wednesday vs. VCU marked his 15th game in double figures this season with the Buff & Blue holding an 11-4 mark in those games. Autry is tied for second on the team with 11.7 ppg during A-10 play, shooting 46% from the floor and 39.7% from deep.
He has reached double digits in eight of the 12 games and ascended as of late with four double-figure outings in the last five, while averaging 14.8 ppg and 5.0 rpg and shooting 41% from deep (14/34). The New York native leads the Revolutionaries in FG% and 3pt% during A-10 play and is also the team's third-leading rebounder (4.9 rpg), highlighted by a double-double at Rhode Island.
Autry has already surpassed his made field goals and 3-pointers from a year ago and has increased both his overall shooting percentage by 4.7% (to 47.3%) and 3-point percentage by 6.1% (to 40.5%).
BALANCING THINGS OUT
Trey Autry became the sixth different Revolutionary to score 20 points or more in a game this season, joining Rafael Castro (five times), Darren Buchanan Jr. and Gerald Drumgoole Jr. (three times), Jacoi Hutchinson and Christian Jones (once). Overall, GW has had nine different players record a double-digit effort at least once during the season.
GW is tied with three other schools for the national lead with eight different leading scorers in a single game this season. Darren Buchanan Jr. has paced the team in scoring six times, followed by Rafael Castro (six times), Gerald Drumgoole Jr, Christian Jones and Trey Autry (four times each), and Jacoi Hutchinson, Trey Moss and Dayan Nessah (once each). Last season, GW had just four different leading scorers.
HISTORY VS. DAVIDSON
Saturday serves as a rubber match of sorts between George Washington and Davidson with the two programs having split the first 30 contests, 15-15. Coach Caputo is 2-0 in his career against the Wildcats, as Davidson is one of two programs in the A-10 in which he has an unblemished record (St. Bonaventure, 3-0).
GW has won three of the last four meetings against Davidson, all of which have come down to the wire. The Buff & Blue rallied from a four-point deficit in the final minute last year to force OT in an eventual 83-79 win. The last four meetings have all been decided by five points or fewer and include a pair of OT triumphs for George Washington, including a 4OT win in 2019-20.
A LOOK AT THE WILDCATS
Davidson has had a remarkably similar season to GW, sitting at 15-9 overall and 5-6 in league play. The two teams are separated by just one spot in the KenPom rankings. Over the last three years, when both teams welcomed in new coaches, Davidson is 46-42 while GW is 47-42.
This year, Davidson possesses one of the top players in the league in Reed Bailey, whose 20.0 ppg rank first in the A-10 and 12th nationally. Bailey also paces the A-10 in field goals made and free throws made, is third in field goal percentage, ninth in assists and 10th in rebounds.
Bobby Durkin pours in 14.8 ppg and is the A-10's leading 3-point shooter at 40.9% and makes a league-high 3.2 per game to rank 18th nationally. Connor Kochera gives Davidson three double-digit scorers with 13.9 ppg and is fifth in the league in field goal percentage (49.0%).
