
Gymnastics Honors Alex deMoura in Rip Current Awareness Meet

Coming off its bye week, GW gymnastics returns home to the Smith Center, welcoming Cornell, Ursinus and UW-LaCrosse for a 1 p.m. meet on Sunday which will air live on ESPN+. March-in will begin at 12:50 p.m. followed by a special ceremony in honor of late gymnastics alumna Alex deMoura, when a new leotard design will be revealed in her honor. The meet will also serve as the program's rip current awareness meet in her memory.Â
AIMING FOR NEW HEIGHTS
Heading to the bye week, the GW Revs posted their two highest scores of the season, claiming a 195.750 at the Towson Invite on Friday evening before posting a 195.400 at Temple on Sunday afternoon against all four EAGL opponents. Both numbers were good for a first-place finish overall. First-year Lola Montevago had a standout performance on bars at Temple, earning a program-record 9.975 on the event, and led the team to its highest score on the apparatus with a 49.075. Following Montevago's breakout performance on bars, she was named EAGL Rookie Specialist of the Week alongside Rachel Katz, who earned Specialist of the Week honors for consistent vault and bars scores across both meets.Â
Heading to their second home contest of the season, the Revolutionaries now sit at No. 34 in the Road to Nationals rankings. GW has also earned rankings in the top 30 on vault (29), beam (29) and floor (30).Â
ON THE OPPONENTS
Cornell arrives to the District after posting a its second-highest score (194.200) in the Empire State Collegiate Championship, ahead of five other New York state teams. The Ursinus Bears are coming off a season-high 189.000 in a dual with West Chester, while UW La-Crosse earned a 191.475 last weekend against University of Wisconsin-Stout in a dual.Â
