Men's Basketball Battles Three Quality Teams in Cayman Classic
11/21/2025 6:42:00 PM | Men's Basketball
GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman - George Washington men's basketball will put its perfect record on the line this week when it takes on three top-150 opponents in the Cayman Classic. All three games will be streamed on FloHoops.
Action begins Sunday at 5 p.m. when GW battles McNeese followed by a 5 p.m. tip with Middle Tennessee on Monday and a 7:30 p.m. matchup with Murray State to close things out on Tuesday.
UNMATCHED BALANCE
George Washington is the only team in the country to boast nine players averaging at least 8.0 ppg and only two others - Miami (OH) and Morehead State - have eight players doing so. Impressively, all nine are doing so while averaging between 19.0 and 28.0 mpg.
Per CBB Reference, only two teams since 1947 have had nine players average at least 8.0 ppg in an entire season - 1952-53 Colorado State and 1979-80 New Mexico. Additionally, six of the eight are averaging double figures, tied for the second most in the country behind only Auburn (7).
BENCH BOSSES
GW's bench scored 40 points in Wednesday's win over UMBC, the fourth-straight game in which the reserves have scored 35 or more. Two of GW's top three scoring leaders - Garrett Johnson and Tre Dinkins - have come off the bench in seven of their eight appearances.
The Revolutionaries are 40th nationally (4th A-10) with 36.6 bench points per game and nine of the 24 double-digit performances have come from reserves.

A LOOK AT THE FIELD
Sunday's opener is against a McNeese squad that sits inside the top-100 of KenPom and advanced to the round of 32 in last year's NCAA Tournament. The back-to-back defending Southland Conference champions are the nation's highest scoring team at 103.5 points per game, albeit only scoring 77.5 ppg vs. two Division I foes with a 1-1 record.
Much like McNeese, Middle Tennessee is 3-1 with a pair of non-Division I victories. The Blue Raiders enter the week ranked 150th in KenPom and are coming off an 86-61 loss to #7 Michigan. MTSU was projected to finish fourth in Conference USA and is coming off a 22-win season and an NIT berth.
Murray State rounds out the competition on Tuesday evening. The Racers are off to a 4-1 start with the lone loss at SMU in their first year under new coach Ryan Miller. MSU is one just nine teams nationally that had zero returners from last year's squad that went 16-17. Murray was picked to finish fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference.
