GREENSBORO, N.C. – Graduate student Michael Foltz has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Rawlings NCAA Division I East All-Region Second Team, the committee announced on Tuesday. Foltz, who was selected as a starting pitcher, adds to an impressive list of accolades following a spectacular season with GW. All-Region teams are voted on by members of the ABCA and the process is led by the ABCA Division I All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.
Foltz finished the 2024 season with a 5-1 overall record, punctuated by tossing a complete game in GW's Atlantic 10 Championship win over three-seed Dayton. Foltz allowed just seven hits and one run in the contest, eliminating the Flyers from the postseason. The contest marked GW's lone complete game of the season and saw Foltz strike out six batters.
In total, Foltz accumulated 55 strikeouts across the 2024 season, holding opposing batters to .176 average which ranked first in the A-10. Foltz recorded an ERA of 2.92 which was second-best in the conference, while also allowing the fewest number of hits in the A-10 among qualified pitchers.
As a staff, GW finished the season as the only team in the A-10 to allow less hits than innings pitched. Led by Foltz, GW had the third-lowest staff ERA in the conference at 5.76, while also allowing the lowest opponent batting average as a team at .257.
Foltz became the first GW baseball player to earn All-Region honors since 2018 when Dominic D'Alessandro, Mark Osis and Isaiah Pasteur were all recognized as First Team selections. Earlier this season, Foltz was also selected as a CSC Academic All-District honoree, an Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team selection, was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Championship team and was the conference's Pitcher of the Week on May 20.
