Bishop Goes Out in Style in 86-75 Win on Senior Night

WASHINGTON - For just the third player ever in the storied history of GW men's basketball to score 2,000 points in the Buff & Blue, going out on Senior Night had to be done in a style fitting of a legendary career. For James Bishop IV, that meant snapping his team's lengthy losing skid, leading all scorers with 27 points, canning five triples in nine tries, dishing six assists, getting the first dunk of his career to put the GW faithful on its feet, and keeping them there with a thunderous applause after the soon-to-be grad left the Smith Center one last time.
Now the Baltimore-product via LSU, who is the first player at GW to play four years in Foggy Bottom since Yuta Watanabe, will look to cap his final regular season with a win at Duquesne Saturday, before staging a going-away party in one last A-10 dance in Brooklyn next week.
JBIV had it all going Wednesday, but his teammates had his back as well to stop the 12-game streak. Maximus Edwards, who joined Bishop last season in earning All-Conference honors, had 19 points in 19 minutes, with seven rebounds and three of GW's season-high tying 15 threes made, finishing the contest with a game-best +/- of +20 when he was on the floor.
Meanwhile, A-10 Rookie of the Year hopeful Darren Buchanan Jr. finished with 14 points, as a capable Robin to Bishop's Batman, running the offense on occasion from his point forward position as one of the league's rising stars.
The 11-point win gives the Revolutionaries some sorely needed momentum, as did their .587 field goal percentage and .517 three-point percentage in a good omen for the club. Among the bright spots too was true freshman Jacoi Hutchinson, who finished with 13 points and a game-high seven assists in 38:08, as the heir to Bishop's throne running the point for George Washington.
A final road game awaits in Pittsburgh before GW opens the conference tournament Tuesday in NYC with time and opponent to be announced Saturday.
