Emma Nowakowski continues hot streak with seven goals for the Buff & Blue
WASHINGTON – GW lacrosse was defeated, 18-13, in its Tuesday matinee to Old Dominion.
GW led after the first quarter, 3-1, with one goal apiece from Amelia Moran, Emma Nowakowski, and Desiree Kleberg.
In the second quarter, Old Dominion found the back of the net five times, narrowing GW's lead from two goals to one, making the score 6-5 at the half. Nowakowski scored two out of the three goals for GW, both unassisted.
The Monarchs took the lead in the third quarter, collecting six goals, four of which were unassisted. Despite a combined three goals from Nowakowski and Kleberg, the Buff & Blue faced a two-goal deficit heading into the final frame, 11-9.
Nowakowski led the GW offense in the final quarter of play, scoring three out of the four goals, but it wasn't enough to take the lead from the Monarchs, resulting in the 18-13 setback.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Nowakowski, who scored six goals on Saturday against Robert Morris, bested her mark with seven tallies on Tuesday. The graduate student has scored 16 goals in her last three games.
- Nowakowski also had the most shots on goal (11), a new career-high.
- Kleberg scored a season-high five goals and has now potted nine tallies in the last three games.
- Stella Ray led the team in draw controls (8).
- Nowakowski and Katie Hipp led the team in ground balls (3).
