3/30/2024 2:25:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse
FAIRFAX, Va - GW lacrosse went into the final frame of its Saturday clash with Revolutionary Rival George Mason all square, but the host Patriots erupted for six goals to pull away with a 13-8 triumph.
Mason jumped on top quickly, scoring four goals in the opening five minutes of the game to assume control. GW answered right back, though, with four of its own, including three from Emma Nowakowski to square the match at four early in the second quarter.Â
Nowakowski would give GW its first lead of the day, 6-5, on her fourth marker with 6:18 to go in the second before GMU scored twice to take a 7-6 lead into intermission.
Phoebe Mullarkey netted the only goal of a quiet third quarter, evening the match at seven with four minutes to go in the frame. But the fourth quarter was a different story as George Mason scored five straight goals in a six-minute span to assume complete control and win going away.
Nowakowski finished the match with five of GW's eight goals, also pacing the Revolutionaries in shots (12) and shots on goal (9). Desiree Kleberg scored twice in the setback.Â
GW is back in action next Saturday, April 6 when it welcomes VCU to the GW Lacrosse Field. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
