WASHINGTON - GW lacrosse could not overcome a slow start on Sunday afternoon and fell for the fourth time in as many A-10 contests, 18-9 at the hands of the visiting Davidson Wildcats.
Much like Wednesday's loss at Saint Joseph's, the Buff & Blue dug an early hole in the opening frame as Davidson scored six times to lead 6-0 after 15 minutes. Grace Curry got the Buff & Blue on the board with 10:54 remaining in the second, but the Wildcats scored the next four to push the lead to nine, 10-1.
GW then found its footing thanks to the scoring prowess of Desiree Kleberg, who netted a pair in the final minutes of the second quarter and finished off the hat trick early in the third quarter, making it 11-4. The Buff & Blue would cut the deficit to six on three separate occasions before Davidson pulled away with three goals down the stretch to account for the final margin.
Kleberg's hat trick marked her third in the last four games and sixth games this season with at least three goals. Phoebe Mullarkey tallied a multi-goal game while Bailey Aaron, Grace Curry, Everly Kessler and Emma Nowakowski each scored once for George Washington.
The Buff & Blue will be back in action for the Revolutionary Rivalry on Saturday at George Mason. Opening draw is set for 12 p.m.
