Lacrosse Heads to Youngstown State Wednesday

WASHINGTON - The George Washington lacrosse team hits the road for a midweek clash on Wednesday at Youngstown State. Opening draw between the Revolutionaries and Penguins is set for 12 p.m. ET at Farmers National Bank Field in Youngstown, Ohio, with coverage available on Youngstown State's YouTube channel.Â
RAY ON THE DRAW
Sophomore midfielder Stella Ray ranks third in the A-10, and 24th nationally, with 6.12 draw controls per game. The Charlotte, N.C., product has started all eight games for GW and has 49 total draw controls, which includes a season-high eight draw controls vs. both ODU and Robert Morris. Ray also leads the Buff & Blue with eight caused turnovers and 19 ground balls.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Youngstown State is looking for its first win of the season after an 0-6 start. The Penguins are most recently coming off a 16-10 loss at home against Longwood. Three of Youngstown State's losses have been to "Power Five" opponents, Oregon (19-8), Ohio State (17-9) and Cincinnati (25-4), and they have also fallen to one A-10 opponent in Duquesne (17-13).
Lena Cox and Ava Kreutzer lead the team in points with 13 and 12, respectively. Cox has 12 goals and one assist on .522 shooting, while Kreutzer has nine goals and three assists on .818 shooting. Paige Borkowski has played all but 15 minutes in net for YSU and has a 18.96 GAA with a .374 save percentage. Turnovers have been an issue for the Penguins this season - they have 103 turnovers to their opponents 76.
Wednesday's matchup will be the first-ever meeting between the programs.
