Men's Basketball Returns Home Tuesday vs. Rhode Island
2/5/2024 4:30:00 PM | Men's Basketball
WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball opens up February with a pair of home games at the Smith Center, beginning on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Rhode Island. Coverage will be available on ESPN+.
THIS GAME IS NO SECRET: Tuesday's game will serve as the "This Game is No Secret" game for GW. This Game is No Secret pays tribute to the legacy of Coach John McLendon and all of the coaches who continue to follow in his footsteps.
In his early years, Coach McLendon's teams were restricted to playing only against other all-black teams. However, while coaching at North Carolina College for Negroes, McLendon participated in "The Secret Game" against Duke, which was the first collegiate basketball contest where blacks and whites competed on the same floor.

DETOUR OFF THE SEASON'S LONG ROAD
GW has dropped four-straight games for the first time this season, signifying the season's first real blip. The Buff & Blue had shot 40% or better in each of its first 17 games, but has been held below 38% each of the last four contests and is shooting just 35.9% from the floor over the last 160 minutes. GW has gone cold from beyond the arc, combining to go just 8-of-47 (17.0%) from deep against La Salle and Dayton.
Defensively, GW has yielded 80+ points in four-straight games and has allowed a league-high 83.5 ppg in conference play. The last four games, GW opponents have shot a combined 48.3% overall and a remarkable 45.1% from beyond the arc.
BISHOP ONE OF THE ALL-TIME GW GREATS

BISHOP ONE OF THE ALL-TIME GW GREATS
James Bishop IV ranks fifth in the A-10 in scoring at 17.5 ppg and has finished in the top-two each of the last three years. He also ranks fourth in the league with 4.4 apg. He recently crossed 400 assists in the Buff & Blue, just the ninth player in program history to do so and the only to do so with at least 1,800 points.
The Baltimore native is one of just 10 active players with 1,900 career points and 400 career assists (including his time at LSU), but is the only player among the group to have played in less than 120 games (116).
A LOOK AT THE RAMS
URI has been a streaky team this season, starting the year with a 5-2 mark before dropping five in a row, winning four straight and then losing five of the last six. The Rams started league play at 3-0, but have gone 1-4 since with the lone victory coming over La Salle, 71-69, last Wednesday.
Two-time transfer David Green was ruled eligible in December and has paced URI with 15.6 ppg and 5.1 rpg in his 10 games (eight starts) since, shooting 49% overall and 56% from deep. High Point transfer Jaden House is the lone Ram to have started all 22 games, posting 14.6 ppg and shooting 47% from the floor.
The Rams rank 348th in the country in KenPom's "Minutes Continuity" metric and lost all five starters from last year's team. During A-10 play, URI is allowing 81.9 ppg and ranks last in the league by yielding 1.183 points per possession.
