Men’s Basketball Loses to UMass, 69-57

WASHINGTON - The GW Revs looked for revenge against UMass after falling in Massachusetts last month, but the Minutemen, who are still in the hunt for an all-important double-bye in next month's Atlantic 10 Championship weren't ready to give GW a chance in a wire-to-wire 69-57 win for the guests in D.C.
Despite finding success inside the arc (7-of-12) in the first half, a 1-of-17 showing from deep waylaid George Washington's chances as the teams hit intermission with UMass holding a 40-21 lead.
Darren Buchanan Jr. competed in the second half, getting 14 of his game-high 21 points in the final 20 minutes, and GW had the game within 16 with just under 4:00 to play, but the climb was too steep in the eventual 12-point game as UMass improved to 9-7 in the conference while dropping GDUB to 3-12.
Fellow first-year Jacoi Hutchinson continued his solid stretch with 14 points and three assists, making four threes in the process.
UMass was just too strong inside for the height-disadvantaged home team, as the Minutemen outdid GW 38-22 in the paint and held a 34-28 edge on the glass, with Matt Cross, who played at Miami during current GW Head Coach Chris Caputo's time on the Hurricanes' bench, leading the way with 17 points and seven rebounds.
GW tries again to get off the schneid Saturday at La Salle, with tip coming in Philly at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
