HAVE A DAY
HAVE A DAY
First-year Dayan Nessah posted a breakout performance in the win over UVA Wise with 19 points after halftime, making 8-of-9 field goals and 3-of-4 3-pointers.
Nessah, who missed the first three games of the season with a foot injury and six games from Nov. 22 - Dec. 7 with an illness, became the ninth different Revolutionary to reach double digits this year and the seventh different leading scorer for GW this year.
BALANCING THINGS OUT
GW recorded its fourth game of the season with at least five players in double figures on Dec. 22 vs. UVA Wise, already surpassing the amount of times it did so during the entire 2023-24 campaign. The Buff & Blue saw six different players reach double digits for the second time this year against the Highland Cavaliers, having also previously done so on Nov. 8 vs. Hampton. Prior to this year, GW had not had six double-digit scorers in the same game since Feb. 21, 2018 vs. Richmond.
Dayan Nessah became the seventh different Revolutionary to lead the team in scoring with his 19 points vs. UVA Wise, joining Darren Buchanan Jr. (six times), Trey Autry (twice) and Gerald Drumgoole Jr. (twice), Jacoi Hutchinson, Christian Jones and Trey Moss (once each). Last season, GW had just four different leading scorers.
GW leads the A-10 and ranks 15th nationally with 55 double-digit scoring efforts thus far this year all while having no player ranking in the top 15 of the league in scoring.
HISTORY VS. RICHMOND
Tuesday will be the 110th installment of GW vs. Richmond and the first of two matchups scheduled this season (Jan. 29 at GW). GW leads the all-time series, 64-45, but Richmond has won eight of the last nine and 12 of the previous 14 meetings in the series, including a two-game sweep last year.
The Buff & Blue's last win vs. UR came on Feb. 8, 2023, 107-105, in double overtime at the Smith Center. GW has not defeated Richmond in regulation since a 103-77 thrashing on Feb. 21, 2018. The GW Revs are looking to snap a six-game road losing streak at the Robins Center and earn their first road win since Feb. 24, 2016.
A LOOK AT THE SPIDERS
The reigning A-10 regular season champions have struggled through non-conference play, sitting at 5-8. The Spiders have lost four of their last five contests, including a 75-57 setback to Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday night.
DeLonnie Hunt is the team's lone returning starter from a year ago and has paced UR by ranking fifth in the A-10 with 17.5 ppg. Hunt had 12 points (2-3 3s) in the first meeting between the teams last year at the Robins Center. Dartmouth transfer Dusan Neskovic is the lone other Spider putting up double digits with 12.6 ppg.
Richmond is 14th in the A-10 at scoring at 71.6 ppg and has gotten most of its production from the free throw line, ranking 11th nationally with 25% of their points at the stripe. Hunt is the main catalyst in that regard, leading the A-10 and ranking sixth nationally with 87 makes and 105 attempts.
Defensively, UR sees 47% of its opponent's shots come from beyond the arc and allows 74.6 ppg, 14th in the A-10.
