Men's Basketball Wraps Up Non-Conference Play with UVA Wise
12/20/2024 12:44:00 PM | Men's Basketball
WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball concludes its non-conference slate with a visit from Division II UVA Wise on Sunday afternoon. Tip is scheduled for 12 p.m. with coverage on ESPN+.
DRUMGOOLE'S CAREER DAY
Gerald Drumgoole Jr. became the first Revolutionary, and just the second player in the A-10 this year, with a 30-point game vs. Lafayette, doing so in just 27 minutes of action. It marked the ninth D-I game this season when a player scored 30 points in 27 minutes or fewer, and the first for GW since Damian Hollis scored 30 in 25 minutes on March 16, 2010 vs. VCU.
Drumgoole's 30-point effort was powered by a career-high six triples, the first 30-point game with six 3s in the A-10 this season. The Rochester, N.Y., native surpassed his previous career-high of 29 set Jan. 14, 2023 vs. NJIT and became the first non-James Bishop IV GW player to score 30 in a regulation game since D.J. Williams on Jan. 30, 2019.
WATER FINDS ITS LEVEL
Drumgoole's 30-point effort vs. Lafayette continued his 3-point shooting ascension since the Buff & Blue went to the Paradise Jam in late November. The graduate student opened the season by making just 6-of-28 (21.4%) in the first four games, but has since made multiple treys in eight consecutive contests, shooting 23-of-52 (44.2%) in the stretch.
Drumgoole has reached double digits in 10 of 12 contests and has scored at least eight points in every game, providing a consistent scoring presence and ranking second on the team in PPG. He entered the campaign having made 155 3-pointers in 64 games (2.4 per game) over the last two seasons at Albany (79 in 2022-23) and Delaware (76 last year) and is now at 190 in his career.
HISTORY VS NON-DIVISION I OPPONENTS
GW is meeting a non-Division I opponent for the third time in as many seasons after topping Virginia State, 85-58, for Coach Caputo's first career win in 2022-23 and Bowie State, 88-73, last year. Since the official split of NCAA divisions in 1973, GW has posted a nearly spotless 31-1 mark against Non-DI foes.
