SEASON IN REVIEW
The Revolutionaries had a successful season in conference, completing their second 10+ win season in the MAWPC in the last three years. Led offensively by Adonis Vlassis (69 goals, 20 assists, 89 points), Andrija Sekulic (52 goals, 36 assists, 88 points) and Antonio Florena (46 goals, 14 assists, 60 points), and in goal by veteran goalkeeper Luca Castorina (257 saves, 47.9 save %), GW finished second in the conference with regular-season sweeps against Wagner, Bucknell, Mount St. Mary's, Johns Hopkins and Mercyhurst. Two of the Revolutionaries conference defeats came against undefeated Fordham, while GW split its two games vs. Navy.
ALL-CONFERENCE GW REVS
GW men's water polo saw four of its student-athletes selected to MAWPC All-Conference teams earlier this week. Vlassis highlighted the selections as he was named to the All-Conference First Team, while both Castorina and Sekeulic were named to the All-Conference Second Team and Florena was picked to the All-Conference Honorable Mention Team.Â
MATCHUP #3 VS JOHNS HOPKINS
The Revolutionaries won both of their games in the regular season against Johns Hopkins.Â
The Buff & Blue downed the Blue Jays in their first meeting, 14-12, on Oct. 20 in Baltimore. Florena (4 goals, 1 assist) and Sekulic (3 goals, 2 assists) paced GW's offense in the first matchup, while Castorina shut down Hopkins' attack with 14 saves.
The teams then met at Long Bridge Park in Arlington, Va., on Nov. 9 with the Revolutionaries going for the sweep. After a slow start offensively, GW built a 5-0 and carried its momentum to an 11-7 victory. Vlassis powered the offense in the second matchup with six goals, while Sekulic and Yam Kabakov each scored twice and Castorina made nine saves in goal.Â
