
Volleyball Sweeps Fordham, Claiming A-10 Series Victory

WASHINGTON - In a swift three sets, the GW volleyball team claimed a match and series victory over the Fordham Rams, 25-19, 25-21, 25-20.
BY THE NUMBERS
Two of the afternoon's three sets saw GW swing above .400, with first-year Taylor Treahy paving the way with 13 kills and a .440 hitting percentage. Senior MC Daubendiek claimed 11 kills and sophomore Haylee Brown chipped in eight. Dilara Elmacıoğlu and Abby Markworth set the tone for the attack with 20 assists apiece, while on defense, Cianna Tejada and Sydney Stewart led the efforts for the team's combined nine blocks at the net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Revolutionaries were able to set the tone for the match through all three sets, in a match that saw every set decided by six or less. In the opening sequence, the score was tied at five apiece, but GW took control and held a 16-11 going down the stretch. The Rams would battle back, but GW wouldn't relinquish its their advantage and claimed the first, 25-19.
In the second, the Rams opened play off a kill from Whitley Moody, but GW remained vigilant, immediately responding to Fordham's offense. Despite the Rams having control over the set for the entire first half, GW battled back to win six eight of the final 10 rallies to claim the second, 25-21.
After GW cruised to the 2-0 lead, the third featured a back-and-forth between the two teams, with the lead changing four times and a tied score six times. However, late offensive efforts from the Rams did not affect GW, and a service ace from Salem Yohannes sealed the match in favor of the home team, 25-20.
UP NEXT
The Revolutionaries will now prepare for a midweek matchup against DMV foe George Mason on Wednesday, October 9. The match will take place in Fairfax, Va., and will be streamed via ESPN+.
