Fairfax, Va. - The GW volleyball program earned its third Atlantic 10 sweep of the 2024 campaign, defeating George Mason 25-18, 25-22, 25-22 on Wednesday evening in a midweek matchup of the Revolutionary Rivalry. With the win, GW now owns a 23-9 all-time advantage over the Patriots all-time, a four-match winning streak and a 4-1 record in A-10 play.
BY THE NUMBERS
Salem Yohannes paved the way to victory on offense for GW, dominating the matchup with 12 kills off a .360 hitting percentage. Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Taylor Treahy also registered seven kills and two blocks. Sydney Stewart had a phenomenal game at the net, registering four blocks and chipping in two kills. At libero, Reilly Heinrich tallied 11 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first, Amina Robinson fueled the scoring for GW with a long serving run, bringing the Revolutionaries out to a 7-4 lead over George Mason. The Patriots responded, narrowing the lead, but GW prevailed, forcing a timeout at 13-9. Following a second Patriot timeout, the Buff & Blue pulled ahead off two kills from Cianna Tejada, claiming the first sequence, 25-18, off a kill from Yohannes.
After sealing the first for GW, Yohannes opened the GW offense in the second with another kill. Despite opening the set scoring, the Revolutionaries struggled to find their footing in the second, trailing the Patriots for the early portion of the set, but eventually found a tie at six apiece. After claiming the lead at 16-15, GW forced a timeout to be called from the Patriots' bench. Coming off the break, the momentum continued to shift in favor of the Buff & Blue, and a block from both Tejada and Haylee Brown sealed the second, 25-22, in favor of the visiting team.
The third once again featured a tight battle between the two teams, with the Patriots claiming the lead early on once again. The GW Revs battled back to claim the lead, 9-8, once again forcing a George Mason timeout. The battle remained narrow for the remainder of the contest, but GW claimed set and match victory over the Patriots, 25-22.

Following the midweek victory, GW now turns its attention to the weekend home matchup with the Davidson Wildcats. Both matches are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and will air live on ESPN+.
