WASHINGTON - Hitting behind an attacking percentage of .396, the GW volleyball team defeated the Davidson Wildcats at home Saturday, 28-26, 25-19, 25-20. With the win, GW extends its record to 15-4 (5-1 A-10), and marks the fifth-consecutive win for the Revolutionaries.
BY THE NUMBERS
Senior MC Daubendiek registered an impressive 14 kills across 17 attempts Saturday, propelling the GW offense. Beside her was first-year Taylor Treahy, who tallied 15 kills and two service aces in the Saturday matinee. Defensively, Cianna Tejada and Sydney Stewart combined for seven blocks, and libero, Reilly Heinrich, chipped in 11 digs. Setters Dilara Elmacıoğlu and Abby Markworth paced the attack with a combined 44 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Playing to extras in the first, GW trailed the 'Cats for most of the sequence, but after five lead changes, found its footing late in the set. Back-to-back kills from Daubendiek sealed the set 28-26 for GW.
In the second, GW claimed the tempo early on, and relinquished the lead only twice to the 'Cats. Several long service runs from libero Penelope Hiepler placed the Buff & Blue at an advantage over Davidson, and efforts from the 'Cats were ultimately thwarted by GW, 25-19.
In the final stanza, the home team once again got ahead early, making it difficult for Davidson to control the flow of the match. Daubendiek, Treahy and Haylee Brown remained vigilant on the attack, and a kill from middle blocker Cianna Tejada sealed the match for the Buff & Blue, 25-20, over Davidson in straight sets.
The Revolutionaries and Wildcats will complete their conference series tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Smith Center. The match will also air on ESPN+.
