GW Volleyball Defeats Loyola MD in Four

The George Washington volleyball team opened the Battle of the Beltway with a win over long-standing opponent Loyola MD (20-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-13). The Revolutionaries beat the Greyhounds in four sets, moving the overall record to 15-2 in favor of the Buff and Blue.Â
The GW Revs fell to the Greyhounds in the first set, 20-25, but fought hard in the second to change the tide of the matchup. In set one, the Buff and Blue came out swinging but struggled to land their attacks. With 37 total attacks, the team took on 10 errors giving them a .054 hitting percentage.

By the start of the second match, the team rallied to change the trajectory of the evening and became tactical at the net. In the first half of set two, Alexis Badu recorded three kills. Along with two added kills by Riley Samuels, it forced the Greyhounds into timeout. Even with the attempted stall in momentum, GW kept the energy up and wiped the second set, 25-15.Â
The third and fourth sets became crucial for both sides. The Revolutionaries and the Greyhounds were head-to-head in the third set, trading attacks, blocks, and strong defensive moves. As the final points were drawing near, the Buff and Blue were able to capitalize on Loyola MD's errors and win the set, 25-21.Â
Fortunately, the energy displayed by George Washington kept the team stable and unwavering going into the fourth and final set. With 133 total attacks, 49 kills, 15 blocks and eight aces, the team secured the win 25-13 over the Greyhounds.Â
