WASHINGTON - GW softball has announced the addition of Jordan Gontram to the coaching staff, joining Head Coach Chrissy Schoonmaker and Assistant Coach Teresa Fister in preparation for the 2024 season.
"I am beyond grateful to Coach Schoony for the opportunity to join her and Coach Fister at GW," said Gontram. "I'm excited to arrive in D.C., meet the team and get to work right away. I think this program is in great hands and I'm looking forward to competing for A-10 Championships with this group of awesome people."
Gontram comes to GW with a distinguished resume. A member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), Gontram spent the last year as an assistant coach for the William Paterson University softball team, where she helped her team improve to 23 wins in 2023, seven more than the previous year.
"We are thrilled to welcome Jordan to GW, to our softball program and to our coaching staff," said Schoonmaker. "Jordan has a passion to teach, is a skilled coach and is committed to the development of the student-athletes that she leads."
While at William Paterson, Gontram was assigned to manage hitters and outfielders, and under her guidance, William Paterson increased its runs scored and RBIs by 20%. In just one season, Gontram helped her team earn one NFCA All-Region honor and four All-NJAC awards.
"Jordan's offensive expertise shined through the process and she has an unparalleled work ethic," Schoonmaker continued. "She is focused on competing for championships while developing successful and strong young women. She is a perfect fit for our program and she will be an asset to our culture while propelling our student-athlete's development forward."
Gontram played collegiate softball at UNC Greensboro, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Masters of Science in Kinesiology. At UNCG, Gontram served as the softball team representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and was a member of the Mental Health Awareness and Spiros Awards Shows committees within SAAC.Â
On the field, Gontram helped UNCG to five consecutive Southern Conference Regular Season Championships, two Southern Conference Tournament Championships, and two NCAA Tournament Regional appearances. Gontram brought a powerful bat to the Spartans' lineup - she owns the UNCG single-season home runs record (19) and is second on the UNCG all-time home runs list (53). Gontram also finished her career in the UNCG all-time top ten in RBI (150), SLG% (.559) and walks (81).
"Jordan's championship experience on the field as a student-athlete at UNCG and her time spent coaching collegiately have prepared her for this role. We look forward to the immediate and lasting impact she will have on our team and program," Schoonmaker finished.Â
