Lacrosse Heads to Duquesne for Final Road Test

Opening draw from Pittsburgh set for noon
WASHINGTON – GW lacrosse will head to Duquesne on Saturday for its final road matchup of the season. Opening draw from Rooney Field is scheduled for noon, with live coverage available on ESPN 3.
LAST TIME OUT
GW fell to Richmond on Saturday, 17-5. The Buff & Blue had five different goal scorers in Amelia Moran, Whitney Moran, Emily Mowbray, Kerry McKeever and Shea Baggett. Mowbray and McKeever began the scoring, putting GW ahead 2-0 in the opening stages of the contest, but GW could not contain the Spiders' offense, a team that is first in the A-10 in goals per game (15.87).
STELLAR STELLAÂ
First-year Stella Ray has proven to be a consistent piece of the George Washington defense, ranking fourth nationally in ground balls per game and first in the Atlantic 10, averaging 3.60/game with 54 on the season. Ray is fourth in the conference causing 1.80 turnovers a game and 27 caused turnovers overall. In addition to her conference rankings, Ray is second on the team with 44 draw controls, just two shy of McKeever.
CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDERSÂ
With just two games remaining in the regular season and the Atlantic 10 Championship to follow, GW sits sixth in the A-10, with the top six teams advancing to postseason play. After the Buff & Blue play Duquesne on Saturday, they will host St. Bonaventure for Senior Day on April 29 and look to clinch a spot in the tournament for the second-consecutive season.Â

SCOUTING THE DUKESÂ
Duquesne is 2-12 overall and 1-6 in conference play, with its lone A-10 win coming in a recent 21-12 victory over La Salle. Following the win, Mackenzie Leszczynski earned Offensive Player of the Week after a career-high nine points (5g, 4a) with three ground balls and three draw controls. Leszczynski is second on the team and third in the A-10 with 41 goals, just behind teammate Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw who has tallied a conference-leading 45. Â
