GW looks ahead to first A-10 matchup at La Salle
WASHINGTON – GW lacrosse was unable to match the tempo of the Mercer Bears' offense on Tuesday, dropping a 19-7 decision at the Mount Vernon Lacrosse Field.
GW was held to one goal in the opening quarter as Mercer quickly drew up a 6-1 lead after 15 minutes of play. Emily Mowbray scored the lone tally for the Buff & Blue in the quarter.
Three goals in the second quarter from Whitney Moran put GW within four at 8-4, but two scores from the visitors in the final minutes of the second frame put the Bears ahead 10-4 at the break.
Katie Lederman found Mowbray in the early stages of the third quarter, with Mowbray tallying her second of the game in a woman-up opportunity. GW was outscored 5-1 to close out the third quarter, with Mercer now leading 15-6.
Kerry McKeever found the back of the net for GW for what would be the final time of the afternoon to set the final score.
