GW looks ahead to a Saturday matchup at Davidson
WASHINGTON – GW lacrosse fell to the reigning Atlantic 10 Champion Saint Joseph's lacrosse team, 17-6, at the Mount Vernon Lacrosse Field on Wednesday.
In a rematch of last year's A-10 quarterfinal matchup with the Hawks, GW allowed 11 first-half goals, which would prove to put this one out of reach for the Buff & Blue, who moved to 1-2 in conference play.
Saint Joseph's rattled off four-straight goals to create early separation before a strike from Whitney Moran put GW on the board. Two more Hawks' goals would close the opening quarter, with the visitors leading 6-1.
The offense continued for Saint Joseph's in the second frame, adding two goals to its already established lead. Emily Mowbray added another for GW off an assist from Moran. Amelia Moran then found the back of the net for the Buff & Blue, but three more Saint Joseph's goals created an 11-3 advantage at the break.
GW connected on its pair of free position shots in the third quarter, with Kerry McKeever and Moran accounting for the tallies. However, three more Saint Joseph's goals made for a 14-5 deficit heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
McKeever scored GW's lone goal of the fourth frame, and three more Hawk goals set the final score, 17-6.
