McKeever, Germer record three goals apiece to lead GW attack
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – In a game that featured four ties, George Washington lacrosse dropped a narrow 15-12 decision at Monmouth on Monday afternoon.
After the home team moved to a 4-0 lead in the first six minutes of play, Shea Baggett started the GW offense, which would ultimately erase the deficit to tie the game at five in the second quarter. After the first marker from Baggett, four different goal scorers helped GW to a 4-0 scoring run to close out the first quarter and start the second frame.
A pair of goals from Monmouth's Caroline Brennan created a two-goal separation for the Hawks, but back-to-back goals from Whitney Moran and Amber Germer sent the two teams into halftime tied at seven.
Monmouth moved ahead again to begin the third quarter, but three-straight goals for GW gave the visitors their first lead of the afternoon at 10-9. However, GW's lead would not last long, with Monmouth scoring 30 seconds later and eventually outscoring GW 5-2 to close out the 15-12 win.
