INTRODUCING GARRETT JOHNSON
Garret Johnson's team-leading 21 points on Monday vs. Stonehill had more of a story than meets the eye. Johnson was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive benign Desmoid tumor in the summer of 2021 and had not played a competitive game in front of fans since February 2020. Johnson underwent four unsuccessful surgeries while redshirting at Princeton in 2021-22 before unenrolling and undergoing nine chemotherapy treatments from August 2022-April 2023.
He is the first GW student-athlete to ever wear #9, signifying the number of chemotheraphy treatments he endured to successfully mitigate the tumor. In his career debut, he became the first Revolutionary to post 21 points, nine rebounds and five 3-pointers in a game since Tyler Cavanaugh on Jan. 9, 2016.
