WASHINGTON – Following two home A-10 matches last week, George Washington women's soccer will hit the road to face NJIT on Wednesday for the team's final regular season non-conference match of the year. Match time is set for 6 p.m. in Newark, NJ, and a live stream will be available on ESPN+.
RABBITT'S BICYCLE GARNERS NATIONAL ATTENTION
Last week's action was highlighted by the spectacular bicycle kick scored by senior Margaret Rabbitt in Thursday's match against Saint Joseph's. The goal, Rabbitt's first of the season, garnered well-deserved attention online and was selected as the number-one play on SportsCenter's "Top 10 Plays." Rabbitt's score was also featured in numerous SportsCenter segments the following day, spreading the video to audiences across the country. To follow up her highlight moment, Rabbitt registered her first assist of the year in the team's following match against Dayton. Rabbitt's scoring outburst now gives her three points on the season, leading all defenders on the team in that category.
THE REMAINING SLATE
Following the upcoming match with NJIT on Wednesday, the Buff & Blue will have four remaining contests in the regular season. Of the remaining slate, only one match will be played at home, a 3 p.m. bout with Davidson on Thursday, Oct. 19. The match marks Senior Day for the Buff & Blue where all seven graduating members of the team will be honored prior to kickoff.
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS
NJIT enters Wednesday's match with a record of 4-3-5 after most recently defeating UMBC 2-1 last Thursday. The Highlanders, members of the America East Conference, hold a 1-1-1 record against conference opponents, placing them sixth out of nine teams in the league standings. In their nonconference slate, NJIT has played one other match against an A-10 opponent, finish in a 1-1 draw with La Salle on Thursday, Sept. 7. Wednesday's match will give both programs an opportunity for early bragging rights as it marks the first meeting between either school all-time.
Through 12 matches this season, NJIT's offense is led by Briana Andreoli with nine points on the year. Andreoli has three goals and three assists thus far, doing so on 19 total shots. Despite being tied for the team lead in points, Andreoli has only started in two matches this season, making most of her impact in a reserve role. Along with Andreoli, NJIT's Gabby Zalot also has nine points on the year. Zalot has two goals and five assists in 11 total matches this season. Zalot's five assists place her in a tie for the conference lead, deadlocked with Bailey Ayer of Vermont for the top spot. Defensively, the Highlanders are anchored by their goalkeeper Samantha Constantine. Constantine has started in all 12 of the team's matches and has 28 saves on the year. She currently boasts a save percentage of 0.700 and has a goals-allowed average of 1.20. Constantine has faced 177 total shots and has a record of 4-3-4 in net.
