Colonials' three-game winning streak snapped in 85-70 setback
BRONX, N.Y. - In a matchup of two of the hottest teams in the A-10 entering Saturday, GW men's basketball came out the aggressor and held the lead for over 27 minutes at Rose Hill Gym. However, the Rams, as has become their custom during their now four-game winning streak, roared back, turning a tie game with eight minutes left into an 85-70 win on their home floor.
GW led by as many as 10 in the opening stanza and held a halftime lead for the eighth time in as many A-10 games, 37-33 at the break. The game remained a two-possession contest for the first 12 minutes of the half, and a close finish seemed destined after Ricky Lindo Jr. canned a corner 3-pointer with just over eight minutes left to knot the game up at 58.
Fordham, though, buoyed by a sellout crowd, scored 10 straight points in the next 75 seconds, including a backbreaking five-point possession to surge ahead. Turnovers doomed the Buff & Blue the rest of the way as GW turned it over nine times in the final 10 minutes en route to a season-high 18 in the contest.
The Rams shot 55% after halftime, including 7-of-14 from beyond the arc, scoring 52 points in the second half. Fordham turned the 18 GW miscues into 17 points and held a 17-7 edge in fast break points.
Khalid Moore was the star for the home side with 30 points and eight rebounds while Darius Quisenberry scored 22.
GW shot a respectable 46% on the day, but hit just 5-of-20 from beyond the arc and was an uncharacteristic 13-of-21 from the free throw line.
All five Colonial starters reached doubled figures, paced by Brendan Adams' 18. James Bishop tallied 15 with six assists and Ricky Lindo Jr. notched his second double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Maximus Edwards and Hunter Dean scored 10 points apiece.
GW will return to action on Wednesday when it visits La Salle in Philadelphia. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN+.
