Colonials return to action Saturday vs. Duquesne
PHILADELPHIA - GW men's basketball was unable to find its footing on Wednesday night at Tom Gola Arena, falling to La Salle, 75-64, for its second-straight road defeat.
The Colonials rallied from a 14-point, first-half deficit to take the lead early in the second half, but were unable to sustain any consistent offense in the contest. GW shot a season-low 37.5% for the game and the 64 points were one shy of a season-low.
Trailing 32-18 with four minutes remaining in the first half, the Buff & Blue closed the stanza on a 10-3 burst to go into the locker room only down seven. GW then erupted for a 17-4 run out of intermission to assume its largest lead of the game, 45-39, with 15:32 remaining.
After making five shots in the first 4:28 of the half, GW made just four field goals the rest of the way, allowing La Salle to work its way back in the contest. Seven ties and 10 lead changes ensued over the next 10 minutes, the last of which came via an Anwar Gill layup for La Salle with 5:38 to go to put the Explorers up 60-59.
La Salle scored seven in a row to push the lead to six and never looked back, finishing the game on a 16-4 run to win going away. Khalil Brantley paced four Explorers in double figures with 15 points.
James Bishop IV and Maximus Edwards tied for the team lead with 14 points apiece. Edwards stuffed the stat sheet with five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Brendan Adams scored 12 points to go along with five boards, finishing the night one point shy of 1,000 for his career. Ricky Lindo Jr. came within in a rebound of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
GW will now head home for a pair of games at the Smith Center beginning with Saturday's Homecoming game vs. Duquesne at 2 p.m. Inductees from GW's newest Hall of Fame class, including members of the 1992-93 Sweet 16 team, will be recognized at the game.
